Thing # 20 - Explore YouTube And TeacherTube

I had a lot of fun looking at videos on You Tube and Teacher Tube...I did find it a little disturbing at what can get posted on the internet for all to see! I posted a high school English teacher's video about what he sees as needing to change in the classroom. Pretty interesting views. I think overall having videos like this at our disposal is a great teaching and learning tool (as evidenced in their use during the Library2Play activities).

The possibilities are limitless since this site has new videos all the time. BUT, like many sites on the web, there are some questionable things

That guy must work at a different school than ours--could you imagine if we let our students direct the direction of the lesson?!
Although, there are some kids who could handle it and it would be more interesting, but literally it would be like 5 or 6 kids in each class--too bad that's not our teacher to student ratio...
As far as letting the kids view all of the Internet, yeah they "proxy" and do it anyway, but I can think of about 20 or so kids who would be looking at porn while I am teaching--disturbing.
Ironically, he says that students have all this information at their disposal, but just from doing the career unit, I can tell that many of them (sadly and shockingly) don't have a clue what's out there and how to find it.
All of this really makes me want to teach that type of class and it should be mandatory for ALL 4 YEARS!!!!!
